Samaritan Ministries

Our Mission

Samaritan Ministries is a refuge of hope and healing for those who are hurting by providing an environment of safety and nurturing to those women and teens who are overcome by life's problems. We do this by providing them with the means they will need to make positive choices in their lives.

Samaritan Ministries advocates for and mentors women in Flagler County, Florida, desiring to transition from lives of poverty, abuse or facing unplanned pregnancies. We do this by offering counseling and assistance involving academic, vocational, emotional, and when they choose to, spiritual issues.

Arrangements are also made for free car maintenance, goal setting, support groups, mentoring and shelter when possible. Our ultimate goal of establishing a rent-free facility was realized as of March 2006 when we opened our Samaritan Inn transition house for women and children.

Ministry Profile

Samaritan Ministries was established in 2001 to fill the void that existed in services to single moms and other women within the community. In the past six years, this ministry provided women automobiles to enable women to either continue their education or transport their minor children to school. We serviced or helped with repairs of over 100 cars since October 2002, and continue to offer free car maintenance and safety checks on a quarterly basis.

We held a support group for women wishing to find direction in their lives, and have witnessed one woman’s dramatic emotional and spiritual transformation after we took her into our home. Samaritan Ministries held two educational and ‘pampering’ days which included presentations in areas such as self-defense, infant cpr, budgeting, ‘decorating on a shoestring’, and other relevant classes.

In 2002 we were awarded the “Points of Light” award from the Make A Difference Foundation. Due to the ministry’s work assisting single mothers and their families, Lorraine Vickery, the ministry’s founder, was nominated as Child Advocate of the Year 2004 by the Grow Up With Me Committee (http://www.growupwithme.org).

Since opening our Samaritan Inn transition house in March 2006, we have housed over 20 women and 7 children and the demand for housing continues to grow as Flagler County continues to grow.
